How much does go-karting cost?

Most single races land between about $20 and $58 — that's what tracks quote on their own sites and what racers mention in reviews across the 395 tracks where a price comes up. A race is usually one 8–14 lap heat that takes 8–12 minutes on the clock. Nearly every track sells multi-race packs and arrive-and-drive memberships that drop the per-race price, so your second and third races cost less than your first. Indoor or outdoor — what's the difference?

224 tracks in this directory run indoor and 88 run outdoor — Indoor tracks are almost always electric karts on a climate-controlled concrete course: tighter, more technical, and open year-round in any weather, which is why they dominate in cities and cold states. Outdoor tracks are usually gas karts on a longer asphalt circuit with higher top speeds and more room to stretch a lap — great in warm months. Is there an age or height minimum?

Almost always, and it's usually a height rule more than an age rule — a driver has to reach the pedals and see over the wheel, so most tracks set a single-driver minimum around 48–58 inches (roughly age 8 and up). Electric or gas karts?

Electric karts deliver instant torque off the corner, run near-silent, and produce no fumes — that's why indoor tracks use them. Gas karts build speed and make the noise and smell people associate with real racing; they're the norm on longer outdoor circuits and usually hit higher top speeds.
